Administration

The decision-making body of the municipality is a 43-member council elected in general elections every fourth year.

The council elects a 11-member municipal board and the other municipal organs for drafting matters and it also elects the officials and functionaries who carry out the decisions of the council.

The highest official of the municipality is the mayor.

The School System

The school system in Pirkkala includes four preschools, six comprehensive schools of which five are primary schools and one is a secondary school. Pirkkalan Yhteislukio is the only upper secondary school in Pirkkala.

The Citizen’s Instutute of Pirkkala – Pirkkala Opisto provides education, various courses and other activities for people of all ages, including language courses, handcrafts, dance and music classes, etc. 

Healt Care Services

Basic health care services are provided locally and efficiently from our own Municipal Heath Center located near the town center. 

Pirkkala offers a modern facilities for the care of the elderly either in a modern retirement home or service center (Pirkankoivu) that provides care and other services. There are also home care options including housing near the service center for those capable of living in their own homes or hospital care offered from the Municipal Health Center.

Technical Department

The technical department takes care of matters concerning water and energy supply, waste management, environmental protection, planning, land-use, building supervision, housing, official buildings, infrastructure, street maintenance etc.
