Pirkkala has a long and illustrious history, but at the present size it has been since 1922. The most archaeological finds of the region have been found in Pirkkala.
Pirkkala combines proximity to nature and effectiveness of services. The municipality owns lots of littoral areas by Lake Pyhäjärvi for the recreation of its inhabitants. There are marked routes for jogging, skiing and excursions to lookout spots of nature.
The age structure is young and the level of education is high. Pirkkala is a part of the larger Tampere region and co-operates widely with surrounding municipalities.
